SA: Champion cyclist speeding before accident, court told

A court's heard a champion cyclist was driving at high speed moments before his car
crashed into a fellow cyclist.

Four-time Australian cross country mountain bike champion CHRIS JONGEWAARD has pleaded
not guilty to dangerous driving and leaving the scene of an accident in the South Australian
District Court today .

The 30 year-old lost his place on the Australian olympic team last year after being
charged over the accident in February 2007 .. in which MATHEW REX suffered serious head
injuries.

Mr REX's brother SAM REX who was a passenger in the car has told the court he remembered
seeing the speedo at about 120 km/hr just before the accident.
