NSW:Anger at Sydney coal seam gas meeting

A public meeting about coal seam gas exploration in Sydney has called on people to
become custodians of the land against such mining.

DREW HUTTON, from Lock the Gate Alliance, told an angry meeting in Sydney's inner west
last night people have to reject coal seam gas mining to ensure a sustainable future.

The NSW government last month extended a moratorium on hydraulic fracturing, or fracking
process, in which miners inject water or other fluids into cracks in rock to extract gas
and/or oil.

ROBBERT DE WEIJER, the CEO of Dart Energy, which holds the exploration licence to drill
for coal seam gas in the Sydney region, was derided for his assurances the company won't
use fracking unless it's approved by authorities and with adequate community dialogue.
