Over the past several years, it has become more important to provide reliable flow monitoring in pneumatic lines and gravity chutes for many powder/bulk solids applications. As production schedules become tighter, maintenance workloads heavier, and automation more prevalent, reliable sensing of solids flow is desired by many plants the world over.
Traditionally, flow monitoring has been performed by either mechanical flap switches or level controls, both of which have their downsides. More recently, however, there has been a general trend toward flow devices with greater sophistication that provide positive advantages in automation and problem detection.
