Qld: New insurance scheme for community groups
Community groups in Queensland will pay from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousandsof dollars in premiums under the state government's new public liability scheme.
The deal between the government and Queensland's biggest insurance company, Suncorp, follows months of uncertainty for non-commercial groups.
During that time, many groups had to call off major events because they couldn't getinsurance coverage.
Premier PETER BEATTIE says the Suncorp scheme will benefit 5,000 community groups registeredwith the government.
Mr BEATTIE says groups classed as being in the low to medium risk category could payas little as $480 a year for public liability insurance.
He's refused to put a figure on the likely premiums of high risk groups -- such aschild care centres and horse riding clubs.
But Suncorp CEO STEVE JONES' revealed top risk groups could pay as much as $40,000 to $50,000.
