Fed: Study called for on health of SAS soldiers

CANBERRA, Jan 18 AAP - A former head of Australia's Defence Force tonight called for a
comprehensive study on the health of ex-soldiers with Australia's crack anti-terrorist
regiment, the Special Air Service (SAS).

Several former soldiers with the regiment explained in a television interview that their
time in the SAS had resulted in long term physical and psychological problems.

One veteran said exposure to poisonous chemicals such as tear gas during training exercises
had caused severe respiratory difficulties.
