FED:RSL stalwart Bruce Ruxton dies

MELBOURNE, Dec 23 AAP - Outspoken former Victorian RSL president Bruce Ruxton has died
at the age of 85.

Mr Ruxton slipped into a coma several days ago and died about 3pm (AEST) on Friday
in a Queensland nursing home, the Victorian RSL's current president David McLachlan announced.

Mr McLachlan said he had spoken with Mr Ruxton's son who confirmed the death of the RSL stalwart.

He remembered Mr Ruxton as a fierce advocate for veterans' entitlements.

"There will be many in the nation that miss his forthright comments about matters of
importance to the nation," he said.

Mr Ruxton was Victoria's longest-serving RSL president, presiding over the organisation
for 23 years, Mr McLachlan said.
